Welcome to Reception's class page

Here you will find important information about the school week, exciting news and pictures of the activities we've enjoyed throughout the school year. Below you can download a copy of our Autumn term curriculum overview so that you can support your child's learning at home.

Phonics & Reading

In Reception we begin our reading journey by learning to recognise letters (graphemes) and the sounds that they make (phonemes).

Reading | Richard Avenue Primary School

We use phonemes to blend together sounds to hear and say words.  This helps us with our reading.

We will bring home decodable books that we have been practising in class.

Little Wandle | Oulton First School

We will use our blending skills to help us read the words within the book. You can help us by listening to us read and helping us to blend.

We will also bring home a 'reading for pleasure' book which is purely just for us to enjoy sharing together, you can read it to us and encourage us to talk about the characters, events and what we liked or disliked.

Helping at home

Homework will come home on a Friday and will usually have a phonics or maths-based activity for you to complete with your child.

This will reinforce the learning that we have been doing in school that week.

Please spend some time with your child helping them to understand the activity and take pride in their work.

Homework books are to be returned to school on Wednesday of the following week so that they can be checked and new activities placed inside.
